Fiorentina have completed the signing of former Spain and Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, as announced by the Serie A club on Friday. The 33-year-old, who has been without a team for the past year, has agreed to a one-year contract with an option for an additional year.

De Gea, who started his career at Atletico Madrid, where he won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup, departed Manchester United in July 2023 after a 12-season stint. During his time with United, he secured numerous honors, including the Premier League title, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Europa League.

Despite not having played for Spain since 2020, with 45 caps to his name, De Gea’s experience will be a valuable addition to Fiorentina, a club that finished eighth in Serie A last season and narrowly missed out on European success, losing in the last two Conference League finals.
